Microsoft Press Authors Speak at PDC Tomorrow and Friday

Don’t worry if you didn’t make it in person to PDC this year. You can check out all of the great sessions online.

You won’t want to miss presentations from Mark Russinovich, author of Windows Internals, 5th Ed, and Vittorio Bertocci, author of Programming Windows Identity Foundation.

We also want to give a special shout out to our former coworker at Microsoft Learning, Glenn Block.

o Inside Windows Azure
Presenter: Mark Russinovich
10/29/2010, 11:30 AM, Live
Join Mark Russinovich, now working on Windows Azure, for an under the hood tour of the internals of Microsoft’s new cloud OS. Topics will include datacenter architecture, cloud OS architecture, and what goes on behind the scenes when you deploy a service, a machine fails or comes online and a role fails.

o Identity and Access Control in the Cloud
Presenter: Vittorio Bertocci
10/29/2010, 10:15 AM, Live
Signing users in and granting them access is a core function of almost every cloud-based application. In this session we will show you how to simplify your user experience by enabling users to sign in with an existing account such as a Windows Live ID, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, or on-premises Active Directory account, implement access control, and make secure connections between applications. You will learn how the AppFabric Access Control Service, Windows Identity Foundation, and Active Directory Federation Services use a claims-based identity architecture to help you to take advantage of the shift toward the cloud while still fully leveraging your on-premises investments.

o
Building Web APIs for the Highly Connected Web Presenter: Glenn Block
10/29/2010, 9:00 AM-10:00 AM (GMT-7)
Room: Kodiak
Are you building Web APIs for reaching any device, enabling mash-ups, or providing highly connected Web experiences? Then come to this session and learn how to build Web APIs your way in Windows Azure. We put you in control of patterns (REST, pub/sub, RPC, Hypertext) and formats (XML, JSON, URIs, Atom, OData) and enable you to leverage new technologies such as WebSockets to build Web APIs exactly the way you want them.
