The “Fantastic 40” Application Templates for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 are here!
On January 30, we launched the first half of the new Application Templates for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Those were the English-only site admin templates. We now have the launch of the last half, the server admin templates. These 20 new templates are available in English plus 10 additional languages (French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese-Brazil, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, Chinese-simplified, and Chinese-traditional). Resources
To coincide with the launch, we have made available several resources that provide valuable information about these new application templates.
- Template Descriptions: This page provides a short description of each of the 40 templates available for download.
- Business Area Groupings: To help put the application templates into the context of specific processes or sets of tasks, this list categorizes the templates into different business areas within an organization to showcase their benefits.
- Frequently Asked Questions: Answers to common questions regarding installation, upgrades, deployment, customization, support and more.
- Template Resource Center: The resource center provides information for getting the most out the application templates, including information on learning the basics of application templates, working with SharePoint sites and customizing with Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007.
Template Datasheets
Each application template has two datasheets to accompany it, one geared towards business decision makers and the other towards IT professionals. The business datasheet covers an overview of the template and some functional scenarios of how it could be used within an organization. The technical datasheet goes more into the components that make up each template, including any built-in workflows and integrations with Microsoft Office system clients. The datasheets will be provided as separate downloads, linked to from the application template home page and the template resource center. These links should be available shortly. In the meantime, we have included a package of all the templates as a zip file.
