I recommend you keep your MCSE updated.

It’s a valuable certification despite the buzz about the value or lack of value ofcertification. There is an upgrade path from MCSE 2000 to MCSE 2003. You need to take exams 70-292 and 70-296 to get your MCSE 2003. Later this month, we’re coming out with Windows Server 2008 certification exams to give MCPs an upgrade path to Windows Server 2008.

Also in terms of PC repair, I recommend you look at Exam 70-620 to configuring Microsoft Windows Vista. https://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-620.mspx. I think these exams and certifications will help keep you marketable for the next few years easily.

Hi, George

I was snooping around your blog and picked up your email address.

Can I pick your brain for a bit? I'd appreciate it greatly.Here's what's happening  on my end.

I'm a  MCSE 2000. I was with Microsoft in Small Business Server Support from April 2000 to April 2003. ( They sent my job and many other server support jobs to India in 2003.) That termination wrapped up 8 years incomputer support contracting and employment. I' have been in real estate since2005 here in North Carolina but that market has grown cold and I want to returnto tech work.

I worked for myself after Microsoft outsourced our jobs, fixing home PCs, SOHO routers,etc. Nothing big or back office.( 2003-2005)

That's why I'm asking for hints and maybe even a little guidance form you since my tech skills are rusty now.

Since I'm semi-retired now and not dependent on tech salary I would be content to just go back to PC " break-fix" contracting as I was for years before being hired by Mickysoft. So I am re-doing my A+certification ( it's easy stuff for me and mostly just review) after which I shall update my MCP or MCSE.

That's where you come in.

Since I already have an MCP and a MCSE 2000, which I got in 2001or 2002, what self study courses does Microsoft Training offer that would leadto a current re-certification.? What courses would you suggest? MCP-Irelated stuff ( I'm weak in web site matters). Linux certs?  Security issues?  I have time to study and get re-certs before attempting to getback into tech work but I am open to any suggestions which way to go.

BTW I live alone and can move just about anywhere of the tech market seems lively.
