“The easiest way to do that is to go into the Azure Portal, hit your Deployment, click “configure” and change the XML file to reflect the number of instances you want.

Even though all your instances will then seem to be not online from the portal for a while, your existing instance will happily continue executing and will receive a “partner in crime”.”
