Need help with MEDC Project

You guys know the Mobile and Embedded Developers Conference 2007 is coming soon, and at this event, we’re planning to create a cool application that everyone will be able to download and install on their device. I can’t tell you more about it as it’s meant to be a surprise, but we’re looking for some help to make it more usable.

What we’re in need of for those who are interested in helping, is to download a simple test application that will return all available Camera Video Modes that your device supports. It won’t take more than 10mins of your time. Here are the steps:

  1. You can download the app using the link below
  2. Copy it into your device (to any folder) and run it.
  3. The application will return a screen that says the video modes have been detected and exported to a file in your \ root called DS_Formats.txt.
  4. All I need for you to do then is to copy that file onto your desktop, open it and post a comment to this post with the following info:

    1. Text in DS_Formats.txt
    2. Device Brand (eg. Motorola, HTC, Orange)
    3. Device Model (eg. Q, Hermes, 8525)
    4. Device OS (eg. WM5.0 or WM6)

Here’s what it should look like.

Thanks so much in advance, this will help us try to support as many devices as we can.

It does not work on my Axim x51v it says "Failed Initializing DirectShow"

  2. Loke Uei says:

    Hi Juan,

the test exposes the Camera profiles that your device supports. As the x51v doesn’t have any cameras, it won’t work. thanks for trying though.

I’m guessing that it’s because I have PPC 2003SE, which I’m also guessing you wont support anyway, seeing as it’s so outdated…

  17. J H says:

    Hi,

Now that the test is over, could you please post the source code for DSTest.exe.  This would be very helpful for people just starting out with DirectShow on Windows Mobile.

    Thanks,

    Jon

  18. Daniel Wagner says:

    About releasing the code:

DSTest.exe is an ugly rip of our DSVideoCE library, which itself is based on the Cameracapture sample from the Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK. I believe that other than DSVideoCE (which I cannot release), DSTest.exe does not contain anything you wouldn’t find in Cameracapture sample.

If you have specific questions on DirectShow under Windows Mobile, feel free to send me an email. Look at http://studierstube.icg.tu-graz.ac.at/handheld_ar/ to find my email address…

    Hi,

I would like to know if someone tested the application with external 1.3 MP SD cameras for Pocket PC, like flycam, pretec, spectec, hp… And if this kind of cameras are compatible with DirectShow for WM 5.0

    Thanks.
