Wow, I want this at home.

So I'm sitting in the Sphinx room at the Microsoft Platform Adoption Center in building 20 in the Redmond Campus trying to get the machines setup for our Mobility LOB Train-the-trainer workshop next week. I've just gone through a semi-complicated 9-step setup script to get everything installed, Visual Studio Team Suite, SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition, Activesync 4.5, Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6 SDKs, Emulator Image for WM5 Landscape Smartphone, Moto-Q plug in, Guidance Automation Extensions, Guidance Automation Toolkit and the Mobile Client Software Factory. Phew.

Now it's time to update the machine for any security & software updates. After running a quick scan, it shows that I need to download and update 19 updates, totaling 694.5MB. :/

Anyway, guess what I notice on the windows update screen:

2 MINUTES?? You've gotta be kidding me. Perhaps someone made an error in the code to calculate estimated time. Anyway, I clicked Install Updates just to prove it wrong. Guess what, it served me some humble-pie.

All 19 updates were downloaded in less than 2 minutes! Later I found out from Stacey (the lab engineer) that the Platform Adoption Center has 1GB of bandwidth coming into this building alone.

You should have heard the sound my jaw made when it hit the ground.

That said, the time taken to install the updates is a totally different story. :)
