Best of MEDC 2006 Virtual Labs are Up!

We’ve taken five (5) of the best Hands-on Labs from MEDC 2006 and made them Virtual Labs. These are basically Hands-on Labs that are available for anyone via a Web Browser. They can download the Lab Manuals and walk through the entire lab at their own pace and as many times as they wish, providing another source of training and hands-on experience for developing Windows Mobile based applications.

Unfortunately for one small error, we managed to upload only 4, the other lab will be uploaded in about a week after we've corrected that issue. Here's the list of labs :

• Developing a SQL Mobile Application with Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005

  In this lab you will learn to:

  • Synchronize data between a Windows Mobile®–based device and a SQL Server 2005 backend database
  • Create a SQL Mobile database, set up, and configure SQL Server 2005 and Internet Information Services (IIS) for merge replication.
  • Create a Microsoft .NET Compact Framework application to maintain SQL Mobile data and synchronize it with SQL Server data
  • Synchronize SQL Mobile data with any backend data store using a Web service

• Developing Multithreaded Applications with the .NET Compact Framework 2.0

  In this lab you will learn to:

  • Create and terminate threads
  • Deal with the challenges of updating user interface controls from inside worker threads
  • Use the multithreading capabilities of the .NET Compact Framework 2.0

• Understanding Windows Mobile Security Using the Device Security Manager

  In this lab you will learn to:

  • Become familiar with the concepts of authentication, permissions, and authorization
  • Use several tools to understand how an application runs on different security configurations

• Monitoring Resource Leaks Using the Application Verifier Tool for Windows Mobile 5.0

  In this lab you will learn to:

  • Use the Microsoft® Windows® CE 5.0 Test Kit to connect to a Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Emulator
  • Launch the Application Verifier Tool, run a test application, and examine the logs that are generated
