Service Update (December 8, 2008)

NOTICE: Unfortunately, the update mentioned below has been slightly delayed (see the Update below), and will not be available today. We will let everyone know later this week when the update is ready. In the meantime, consider this a preview of what's coming! [We do apologize for the delay, and thank you for your patience. We want to make sure that everyone has the best possible experience once the update is released, and we need a little more time to ensure that is the case.]

UPDATE: In the world of services, we have blackout periods where no updates are allowed. This is to ensure stability during, e.g., the holiday season when use of a product goes up and the availability of employees to fix issues goes down. The Live Mesh team entered this blackout period before the final testing of our next Live Mesh client for Windows was completed. Thus, we're holding this update until after the holidays - look for more news in early January.

While we updated the clients for Mobile and Mac last week, as well as the Live Desktop, those of you with Live Mesh on Windows computers had to wait a little for your update - but we're happy to say that it's coming later today! Thank you for your patience. See below for the details.

  • Conflict-handling improved for duplicate files and folders

  • Live Mesh no longer disables Aero in Windows 7

  • Continued improvements to P2P synchronization

  • Minor usability improvements

This update will bring your Windows Live Mesh client up to version 0.9.3424.11

Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC) reminder

While we no longer require that UAC be turned on when running Live Mesh on Vista SP1, if you initially installed Live Mesh with UAC turned on, and then turned it off, you might have some issues upgrading. Please see “NOTICE: Updating Live Mesh and User Account Control (UAC)” in the Known Issues sticky on the Live Mesh forums for further information.

Thank you for helping us test Live Mesh!

Agreed.  It definitely was annoying.  Glad to hear it’s being fixed!

Once the update is ready, I’ll be sure to reinstall Mesh.  I’ve almost become reliant on Mesh now to get my work done… it’s just so convenient!

  6. James says:

Yeh, the Windows 7 fix will be great 🙂

I’m eagerly looking forward the update – but yes, i’d far rather prefer it’s checked out/fix, than have a repeat of previous build sync issues etc! I’ve always admired the number of scenarios you have to take into account, and the sheer logistics of getting it to us all.

  9. Chris says:

We going to have an update today?  Can’t hardly wait.

  10. Michael Gill says:

The Windows 7 fix will be great?? Who cares – Live Mesh is Beta, and Windows 7 hasn’t even reached that stage yet!

Fix the ‘currently starting’ loop and I’ll be more impressed.

The Aero bug is so annoying! I really cannot understand why you are holding the update back, it can’t get worse!

Ok, so it’s early January.  Could we have some news on the Mesh update please?  XD

I’d rather not deal with the Aero problem in Windows 7.  When I still had Mesh installed in Win7, it became very annoying.

  16. pjc says:

Ditto with the above poster – day two of what is regularly the new working year, and no news.

Please let us know what’s happening here.

  17. MSDN Archive says:

    @ Silverskull and pjc,

Now that the Live Mesh team is returning from vacations, the next update to Live Mesh should be available very soon!  We just need to ask for a little more patience as everyone here gets back into the swing of things.

  18. matro says:

i’m carefully waiting too! hope you to fix regional settings related issues, as I’d like to use live mesh from Italy as soon as it gets out updated.
