IIS 7 Availability Matrix

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 have been released for a long time. However, there are still some people asking whether their Vista or Server 2008 installation contains certain features.

Well, Microsoft have the matrix published here for your reference. Please notice the following key points,

  • Windows Vista Home Basic and Starter Editions has significant limitations that you cannot deploy web sites on them (including ASP.NET).
  • Windows Vista Home Premium does not support all security features (for example, Windows and Digest authentications are missing).
  • All Windows Vista editions have simultaneous connection limits. So it is recommended to use them for testing purposes only, and use Windows Server 2008 for production purposes.

P.S., IIS 7 is exclusively available on Windows Vista and Server 2008.
