SQL Server Evaluation Edition licenses are expiring

If you are using the February 2016 release of the Microsoft Dynamics AX on a demo/build in a virtual environment, your SQL Server Evaluation Edition license has expired. You must select one of the following options:

  • Deploy another Dynamics AX 7.0.0 (February 2016) virtual machine. The new virtual machine (VM), which is Azure only, includes a new SQL Server 2016 Developer edition.
  • Install Dynamics AX (May 2016 update) or a newer release. We recommend that you select this option.

If you are using the May 2016 release of the Microsoft Dynamics AX on demo/build in a virtual environment, your SQL Server Evaluation Edition licenses will expire on November 1, 2016. Before your license expires, we recommend that you do one of the following:

  • Install the Dynamics AX (May 2016 update) build VM that includes the new SQL Server 2016 Developer Edition.
  • Download the new May 2016 virtual hard drive (VHD).

SQL Server 2016 Developer edition comes with a free license that does not expire.

I'm trying to download the new May 2016 VHD from https://connect.microsoft.com/site1321/. Download named "Dynamics AX Update 1 VM with SQL 2016 RTM", that's the right one?

I downloaded every except for 12 and 17. Is there something wrong with those? It's like the link doesn't work. When I click the link the page refresh but no download starts.

  2. Steve - a new set of files was posted for downloading on the Connect site earlier this month to address the issues with corrupted files you saw previously

  3. The expiration date for the May 2016 update VM's deployed originally in Azure is coming up soon and is most likely set to expire on October 23rd for those VMs deployed right away in May. Creating a new VM and moving your content before the expiration date is strongly recommended.
