Microsoft annonce *enfin* aux entreprises la possibilité de déployer leurs serveurs d’applications chez un hébergeur - ou un opérateur de cloud - sans re-payer de licence.

Présent au Hosting Summit (Bellevue, WA), je viens d’assister à une présentation très carrée de Bob Kelly sur ce sujet depuis longtemps réclamé par les entreprises. Plus de détails ci-dessous, in easy english .

“Today customers have a range of IT deployment options: on-premises, Microsoft delivered cloud services, and partner delivered cloud services. Microsoft’s breadth of products and cloud services as well as our extensive partner ecosystem gives us the ability to make our technologies available to customers through any of these models. Our customers and partners have asked us to enhance the flexibility of our licensing to support these choices.”

“Microsoft introduces license mobility that will provide customers the flexibility to deploy certain server applications with active Software Assurance on-premises or in the cloud, without having to buy additional licenses. This includes Exchange Server, Lync Server, SharePoint Server, SQL Server and Dynamics CRM. This change provides customers with additional hosting flexibility and affordability.

For Service Providers this change eliminates the prior requirement for dedicated hardware and enables improved economies of scale and operating efficiencies.”

Je pense que cette impulsion est très bonne, et est accompagnée d’autres mesures de réduction de prix sur les licences de produits serveurs. A retrouver sur le site du licensing SPLA ce mercredi (ou très prochainement).
