Kinect-powered stroke rehab system gets FDA clearance

Back in January, we featured a story about Jintronix and its innovative rehabilitation system that uses Kinect for Windows to help stroke victims recover physical functions. The origins of that story date back to April 2012, when Jintronix, then based out of Montreal, became one of 11 startups selected from more than 500 applicants worldwide to take part in the Kinect Accelerator program. That program was powered by Techstars—one of the world’s foremost technology accelerators—in close collaboration with Microsoft.

Now, as Dr. Bill Crounse, senior director of Worldwide Health at Microsoft reports in his blog, Jintronix has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its rehab system. This marks an important milestone for Jintronix. “We’re very excited about receiving FDA clearance, which paves the way for Jintronix to help in the rehabilitation of countless stroke victims,” said CEO Shawn Errunza.
