Windows SDK UPDATE for Windows Vista

The Windows SDK Update for Windows Vista is live.  This is the SDK to install if you want the new C++ compilers that shipped with Visual Studio 2005 SP1.  The docs have been updated, but the samples, tools, headers and libraries are the same as those that shipped with the Windows Vista SDK in November, 2006.  Your next opportunity to download new tools, samples, headers and libs will be with the SDK that will release to support the next version of Windows Server code named “Longhorn” that will be released in beta version soon.

The Update includes upgraded compilers from the Visual C++ team that enable you to leverage a security-related feature in Windows Vista called ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization).  These updated compilers are the same as those that recently shipped in Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1. You’ll also find documentation updates that weren’t available when the Windows SDK for Vista locked down.
If you have Windows SDK for Windows Vista release installed, you’ll need to uninstall it before installing the Update. This Update release is intended to replace the previously-released bits.

The Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) Update for Windows Vista provides documentation, samples, header files, libraries, and tools you need to develop applications that run on Windows.  The SDK includes content for application development with the APIs in Windows Vista, including the .NET Framework 3.0 technologies: .NET Framework 2.0, Windows® Presentation Foundation, Windows® Communication Foundation, Windows® Workflow Foundation, and Windows CardSpace™. This SDK is designed for use with Windows Vista (which includes Framework 3.0). The Windows SDK Update for Vista also supports creating applications for Windows XP, Windows Server® 2003 SP1, and Windows Server 2003 R2. This release of the Windows SDK is compatible with Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005 and the Visual Studio 2005 extensions for .NET Framework 3.0 (WCF & WPF), November 2006 CTP.
