I stayed up entirely too late to see Johnny's monologue and signature golf swing.  On the east coast, The Tonight Show started at 11:30 pm, and I often ended up seeing David Letterman (which followed The Tonight Show, coming on somewhere around 1:00 am).  This morning, I woke to learn that he has passed away at the age of 79.

The last thing Johnny Carson said on the last broadcast of The Tonight Show was "I bid you a very heartfelt good night."
