J2SE 5.0 released

Java 2 platform Standard Edition 5.0 is released today.


Not a big news for Microsoft. But a big news for the industry.

    Interesting that Solaris and Linux on x86 get the "if server-class, use server VM" logic, but not so for Windows – so default out of the box (noone adds -server), benchmarks of Java server apps on Windows vs. Linux/Solaris for the same hardware…

    Kinda surprises me that they don’t at least attempt to give an explanation why they’re treating Windows differently, although maybe it’s an implied "Windows isn’t a server OS, the others are!" mentality *shrug*

  2. That is mostly true though. Very few people uses linux/solaris as desktop, while majority windows is used as desktop.

    Of course they can be a little bit smarter, and check server version of windows. But Java on windows is not as big as on linux/solaris. Guess they don’t want to do this work.
