Installing to mapped drive is not supported


While trying to install Visual Studio 2005 one of my client was getting error "Installing to mapped drive is not supported"

Complete Error

At least one component has an install path set to a mapped drive. Installing to mapped drive is not supported

Cause: This issue is seen when the C:\Program Files\Common Files location in the registry is set to a Mapped or a Share Drive

Resolution: Registry Edit is require for this

The registry key to modify is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

CommonFilesDir: This key should point to C:\Program Files\Common Files

    I get the same error when trying to install some addons. I can see that the Test parts are said to be installed on a mapped drive. (i have never choosen this so it is strange anyhow). The reg. key is refering to the correct place ( c:program filesCOmmon files)

    Is it possible to edit the file that is describing where components are installed and fix the faulty path?

    I have the same error while attempting to UNINSTALL Visual Studio 2005 component (namely, C# part).

    I’ve checked the registry and all paths seem to be correct in

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion

    What’s more, all the locations in installation details seem to point to places on drive C:.
