Thought Leadership: Steelcase, Live Labs, Photosynth, Seadragon, and John Mullinax

This title is an interesting combination of entities. Let me explain how I came to this conclusion. In the context of something that I preach to my sons and groups that I speak to, let me say that "learning should never end, or you'll be unemployed or not paid very much". So, here's some learning that I did today.

John Mullinax has told me several times about this blog that he reads from this Senior VP at Steelcase, Mark Greiner. I just got around to taking a look at it, and I must say that the blog is impressive. Yes, it looks professional, but the thinking is definitely different than the typical technology blogs that I read. I would put this in the Thought Leadership category because Steelcase is about office furniture in my identification of them. After further checking, Steelcase is bigger than this.

In my perusing, I noticed that Mr. Greiner has a post about Photosynth and Seadragon, two Microsoft technologies that are way cool - so I had to check it closer. The post also links to a October showing of these Microsoft technologies on Wired Science (PBS).

So, since I was on the Microsoft Live Labs site (see their manifesto), I noticed that they are staying quite busy - so I subscribed, because they have recently discussed a variety of innovations - like Listas, Volta, Entity Extraction, etc. Back through the fall, they have posts on new features in Live Search (finding specific kinds of images), NASA image collection in Photosynth of the Shuttle Endeavor tiles, using Entity Extraction on the Live Search toolbar, etc. You might want to take a look occasionally. This site and group are examples of Thought Leadership.

So, based on this path of learning provoked by my teammate, I deem John Mullinax as a Thought Leader! (Let's now see how long before he notices this blog post.)
