Last of the news summaries of this year's Microsoft Management Summit:

  • Infoworld's article "Microsoft offers glimpse of management software future" reports on Kirill's keynote, where he talked about capacity planning (yay Indy demo!) and desired state management (as in, "I want the configurations of all these machines to match that description - computer, make it so").
  • CRN reports "SMB Channel Optimistic About Microsoft MOM 2005 Express", and does a nice job of illustrating the market niche: customers too big for Small Business Server, but too small for full-blown Microsoft Operations Manager.
  • The best Indy quote yet comes from David Worthington's Betanews article "Microsoft to Demo 'Indy' Management Tool", where Jupiter Research analyst Joe Wilcox likens today's management systems to a baby which is heavily managed by its parents, and then opines "I would regard Indy as a mechanism for approaching adulthood".
