Must Work Harder

Hi - I'm Jonathan Hardwick, and I'm software architect for the Indy team in Microsoft's Enterprise Management Division. EMD are the fine folks who make it possible to manage thousands of computers using SMS and MOM - and if you know what those TLAs mean, you hopefully also know about our Microsoft Management Summit (MMS 2004) in Las Vegas next week. And Indy… well, Indy is a team that's just getting started, which means that I'm spending a lot of time reading Chris Pratley's blog.

MMS 2004

I won't talk much about Indy until after our demo at MMS 2004, but in the meantime I'm going to do a series of posts on information overload, and specifically on the dizzying variety of ways to get information, organize it, and share it. I'll touch on (in no particular order) email, blogs, browsers, netnews, onenote, wikis, sharepoint, tablet pcs, the joy of tabs, information refactoring, and peripheral awareness. I don't claim to be an expert; I'll just relate my own survival skills, and hope that someone out there can teach me even better ways to use this stuff.

Oh, and the title of this blog comes from HT Kung, an eminent professor whose immortal advice to Carnegie Mellon PhD students was "Systems hard. Must work harder".
