Nvidia shows off IE9 GPU accleration

Neowin.net picked up on a video today from Nvidia showing the huge performance advantage IE9 gives you with GPU acceleration.  Pretty much speaks for itself - check it out:

Full article on Neowin is here – some interesting comments, too.

The video shows the impact on a netbook, but it’s a dramatic improvement on beefy machines, too.  I’ve got an “engineering workstation” class HP laptop myself and here are my results for the spinning image test:

IE9 Platform Preview:

FPS: 37

CPU: average 32%

Settings: 256 spinning images (highest), running 1920x1200, full screen, dual monitor

IE8:

  • FPS: 1
  • CPU: average 52%
  • Settings: 256 spinning images (highest), running 1920x1200, full screen, dual monitor

For fun, why not head over to the IE9 Test Drive site to get the IE9 platform preview and see what kind of difference it makes on your machine?
