Beautiful McLaren MP4 12-C supercar runs on Windows

Interesting to see Steve Clayton's post on the McLaren MP4 12-C running not one but two Microsoft Windows operating systems.  Not really that surprising, though.  The McLaren Group is leveraging its racing heritage as it builds McLaren Automotive into a consumer sports car manufacturer.

In addition to housing McLaren Automotive, the building behind the beautiful MP4 12-C below is also the home of McLaren Racing and McLaren Electronic Systems (MES).  If you don’t follow F1 racing, you might not know that McLaren Electronics Systems, in partnership with Microsoft, supplies Engine Control Units (ECUs) for all F1 race teams.

By the way, in addition to the ECUs, MES also has a pretty nifty solution for logging, reporting, and analyzing race data from 100+ sensors -- either over time or in near real time trackside -- that is built on Windows, SQL Server, and .NET called SQL Race.  Over the course of a race season, an individual car can generate multiple terabytes of data… that’s a treasure trove of data for diagnostic and prognostic analysis!
