(In)Side Business Opportunity: Modding Microsoftie’s Offices?

I’ve joked about this for a while, but I’m starting to believe there is a business opportunity making office modifications to Microsoft employees — particularly modifications that are within the Real Estate and Facilities guidelines. For example, if you don’t like the color of your office, we can change it — and change it back when you move out. We can change the lighting in your office to something less awful than the standard flourescent tubes, yet still energy efficient. We can steam clean your carpets and add an air filter to the air conditioning outlet in your office.

What do you think? And how much trouble could I get into? 😉

Since I’m doubled up I work hard on not being in my office but if I were I must admit that this would be interesting to me. I’ve seen some amazing offices around Microsoft. Changes like carpets, couches, lighting and desk arrangements that made a huge difference to the comfort of the office. Since I lack anything even approximating interior decorating skills I’d be willing to pay a reasonable sum to replicate the experience. But again, this only applies if I were to get my own office. For now, if I lived in Seattle, I would join you in that coffee shop. 🙂

So how much would you be willing to pay above and beyond the cost of the actual fixtures (i.e. for labor)?
