Another post for my ol' Lenovo

Way back in 2006 I received a Lenovo Thinkpad x60 when I first came to the team. It has presented me with some unique challenges over the years, and I have written about it quite often that I would almost appear to think the machine was not worth it. But it keeps working (the old Thinkpads had this reputation) no matter what and frankly, I am impressed with a machine that arrived with Windows XP on it and now solidly runs Windows 8.

This week, though, my hard drive cover broke off the machine:

That is actually the second hard drive in it now, if I remember correctly. I tried to glue the cover back together but could not get it to line up correctly (the lengths I go to in order to help Microsoft lower costs) because a small piece of the plastic is missing.

On the positive side, I have carried it to my regular meetings and used it. So far, no problems and it is still ticking away. 7 years with a single laptop is a pretty good run. It has taken just normal wear and tear and I don't think I have seen any other machine last this long to accumulate this much abuse.

So good job to the engineers that designed this thing. I hope I can get a few more months out of it - I'm going to miss that keyboard!

Questions, comments, concerns and criticisms always welcome,

John
