Helping to control the “cost beast” with OneNote

I came to the OneNote team just over three years ago. As I've mentioned before, I still use sticky notes now and again for different reasons, not the least of which is hardware failures. Anyway, when I moved into my office three years ago, I grabbed one pack of large yellow and one pack of medium size green sticky notes.

Over the last few years, I've moved more and more of my notes to OneNote so I haven't used them all that much. As I was taking notes yesterday, I noticed that in the three years, I still have a few pages left in each:


Check it out - two stickies left in the yellow, and about 5 in the green. Not too bad for controlling the "cost beast" and in my eyes, a nice little testament to OneNote for helping reduce office supply consumption.

Internally at Microsoft we refer to the “cost beast” as the cost of simply doing business – buying office supplies, electrical bills, etc…  Anything we can do to lower costs is referred to as controlling the cost beast, and I can now feel I’ve helped do my part. 

The real trick to all of this for me is using WIN+N to open a new side note to jot something down.  This has greatly dropped my sticky note usage over the past three years and I just noticed the proof this week.


Pretty cool, I think.
