New Years Resolutions

Useually I don't do New Years Resolutions but I've really been working on my organizational management skills after attending the FranlkinCovey class a few weeks ago.

So here is my years major milestone planning.

1.) Daily Temperance

Passion is a great thing, but it sometimes interferes with my most effective communications. In 2005 I will temper my frustrations and communicate openly and directly, but gracefully.

2.) I will kill my television, or at least wound it significantly.

I love television, but it is a waste of time. I will reserve TV time for pugilistic events and those times when fatigue prevents me from being effective at anything intellectual.

3.) I will read no fewer than eight books that contain no code.

I love to read. Science Fiction, Psychology, History, Business, etc. - but it seems that there is allways one more technical book that I just have to read first. This year I’ll make the time.

4.) I will prepare and schedule a trip to the Fairtex Muay Thai Kickboxing Training Camp.

I’ve gained 20 pounds since I joined Microsoft three years ago, and my fitness has really slipped. This year I will take those 20 pounds back off, attain a fitness level that lets me spar at least eight rounds straight with the champ all in preparation for a visit to the Fairtex Camp. At 43 years old, if I’m ever going to do the camp, it better be now.

5.) Write a book.

After 30 years in his industry (that’s right, I got my first programming job at 13) I’ve learned a thing or two about a thing or two. I’ll pick a topic, get a publisher, and get chapters down on paper!

6.) Write and distribute an application.

It’s been a while since I built an application, a REAL application, not a demo app, for use other than inside Microsoft. This year I’ll pick an application do be destributed to the public, I’ll build it and make it available free of charge.

7.) I’ll get certified in something technical.

I don’t know why. It just sounds like a good idea.

8.) Write and publish at least TWO magazine articles.

Because it will be good for my job !!
