Be aware that all Updates for SharePoint 2013 require March 2013 PU for SharePoint 2013 to be installed first.

Important for all Server Applications listed above:
After applying the preceding updates, run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard or “psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b -wait” in command line. This needs to be done on all servers in the farm with SharePoint installed. You can run psconfig in parallel on all SharePoint machines.

You might have you own strategy to run psconfig because it depends on the farm structure and what makes sense to reduce the downtime.

  1. Hi Joerg, if I want to install both SP1 and April 2014 CU, can I run psconfig once on all servers after installing both?

    Thanks,

    -sv

  2. In case that would have been tested, it should be documented.

Yes you can, I did in my environment and it works fine, Sometimes update conflict occurs in multi server environment. E.g. Sometimes you may get error as "The following is missing on <servername>"  if that happens run this command

    Get-SPProduct –local

on all SharePoint server one at a time, this will force a timer job to execute to pick up the current build version of sharePoint on each box and update in the configuration database. Once that command is complete, please proceed with PSConfig command.
