Microsoft Search Server Express 2010 Secure Store Service and August CU

We saw a lot of discussions around the “The trial period for this product has expired”. We had two issues with that message in MSX2010 and MSF2010.

Issue 1: Just a false alarm and documented here:

Issue 2: Trying to use the Secure Store Service in MSX2010 is not possible from the beginning. For this issue we need a hotfix and that is now available with the August cumulative update circle.

How were the repro steps?

1. Navigate to central admin and click Manage service applications

2. Here click to manage the Secure Store Service:

3. Result

To solve this problem you need to download the hotfix from here:

The kb article 2276336 will be available later:;EN-US;2276336

    Just wondering is this issue:

When you try to manage the Secure Store Service in the Microsoft Search Server 2010 Express, you receive the following error message on the page:

fixed for sharepoint Foundation 2010 as well?

  2. The code change is inside and that file seems not shipped in MSF2010 August CU. Contact support and ask to fix this also for MSF2010.

  3. cmtech says:

This wasn't included in October's MSF2010 CU.  Do you know if it's going to be included in the one for December?

  4. The fix is described in KB 2276336 and there is also the download link.

Even in SharePoint Foundation 2013,  this issue has not been revolved!!!!!!!

  6. So what exactly is not fixed?

    – The false alarm message “The trial period for this product has expired” on a SharePoint foundation 2013 box?

    – The server (SharePoint Foundation 2013) can be somehow not administrated anymore?

    – Search on SharePoint Foundation 2013 does not work?

    – You get the same message described in "3. Result" is the same with SharePoint Foundation 2013?

    – Are you working with the final build 15.0.4420.1017 ?

If you want to address an issue with SharePoint Foundation 2013 please open a support case with Microsoft Support.

Although this article applies to both SharePoint Foundation 2013 and SharePoint Server 2013, the sections about how to upgrade service applications apply only to SharePoint Server 2013. (The exception is the section about how to upgrade the Business Data Connectivity service application which applies to SharePoint Foundation 2013 and SharePoint Server 2013).

Result: Secure Store Service is a Feature that works only with the full version of SharePoint Server 2013.
