Live! The Office How-To Center!

I'm excited to announce that the MSDN Office Developer How-To Center has gone LIVE!

https://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/office/bb266408.aspx

The How-To Center consists of a set of "Visual How-To Topics" which combine a video demo, a conceptual overview, a code sample and related resources into a single content item. We expect that this will help you, the Office developers learn how to work with specific new features of different 2007 Microsoft Office system programs, servers, services, tools and technologies by providing different flavors of content. The articles are as short as a blog entry (1-3 pages), the videos are about 5 minutes (but can be up to 10 mins) and the code samples can be anywhere from 4 – 500 lines of code. All this provides a wide variety of learning resources for people that have different learning styles and even time. It helps developers get right to what they need rather than having to search through entire projects.

We are currently starting out with only 2 How-To topics but will grow bi-weekly with information on WSS, Excel, OpenXML file formats, Word, MOSS, VSTO, and more!

Office Business Applications Section

In the future, there will be a section entitled Office Business Applications which will tie together several How-To's to show how a solution could be built. For example, one of our ideas is to break apart the Fabulous 40 WSS templates into separate How-To code samples and then bring them together in the OBA section and show the BDC integration, and link to the finished results on the MS.com download page. Another idea is to show the conceptual idea of an OBA by linking together the How-To topics. We will have only videos and diagrams in the OBA section of the site, not actual solutions. This section will be built once we have more How-To topics.

Enjoy, and check back often!
