Crazy Blogging

I can't keep up with Gretchen's blogs anymore.  She has the company and blog.  She is also blogging and marketing for  Then, this week, we decided we wanted a site for personal blogs.  I really don't want to bore you people with my thoughts on wine, cooking, and pictures of our dogs and Gretchen doesn't want to mix advice oriented blogs with her thoughts on trashy celebrities.  🙂

For now we're opting to build a custom community server site for this. Maybe a little bit of overkill, but it's more flexible than other solutions for family blogs/picture galleries. The hardest part was deciding on the family URL. was apparently taken. I'll point to our choice when the site is up and then probably just have a ticker of the feed on the side of this blog for those that are interested.

If you’re planning on using CS for your site, I recommend you try out our most recent release, Community Server 2007 Beta 1, which was made available yesterday. You should be able to do lots of easy UI customization with Chameleon, our new theming engine.

What’s the upgrade experience like for folks that can, but don’t like to futz around with databases?

We don’t recommend you upgrade any existing production sites to CS2k7 since it is a beta. 🙂

That said, if you haven’t made any core changes (or skin changes) you should be able to simply run a single file in Query Analyzer that will upgrade your schema to work with the new bits.
