Port Your App to Windows 8 and Win a Trip to BUILD

As you might know, my Technical Evangelist colleagues and I spend a lot of time on StackOverflow helping out with Windows 8 questions, but somehow I missed this!  This promotion started on May 2nd and has a June 7th submission deadline (at which point the app must be in the Windows Store) , so get cracking!

Apptivate.ms "Port Your App" contestThe contest is focused on developers with applications in other marketplaces – iOS, Android, Blackberry, Kindle, etc.- to see who can best make their application shine on Windows 8 by incorporating the unique and compelling aspects of the platform, like Live Tiles, Sharing and Searching contracts, semantic zoom, and more. There’s actually a developer contest AND a reviewer contest (a sweepstakes), and it’s all part of the StackOverflow community site, so you can win badges there too!

Developer Contest

In the developer portion of the contest, you’ll need to port and submit your app of course – again it must be in the Windows Store by June 7th. You’ll also need to create demo videos, 2-3 minutes in length: one that shows your app running on the original platform (iOS, Android, etc.) and the other showing the Windows 8 version. Once you submit your app, the community can join in to provide additional guidance and suggestions that you might incorporate into your submission right up until the June 7th deadline.

The First Prizes is a trip to BUILD 2013 in San Francisco (one US-winner and one non-US Winner). There are 10 second prizes, a Surface Pro, and five third prizes of a subscription to Office 365 Home Edition.

Reviewer Contest (“Sweepstakes”)

In the Reviewer portion of the contest, you can amass StackOverflow achievements by answering Windows 8 questions, commenting and voting on submitted apps, and participating in the Windows 8 developer chat.  The more you participate the more opportunity you have to win a Surface Pro, an Office 365 subscription, or a nifty Apptivate.ms T-shirt!
