New York Tech MeetupThe New York Tech Meetup has, get this, 27,306 members! While it’s unlikely they’ll all be coming to the Windows 8 Generation App Hackathon that they are cohosting with Microsoft next week, it definitely promises to be an exciting and fun event.

WeWork The event takes place at WeWork Lounge in Soho from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27th, where you’ll be able to learn from startups and developers about their early experiences developing for Windows 8. Microsoft evangelists and area Windows 8 developers will also be on hand to help you get started building applications for the Windows Store - whether you’re a C#/XAML gal, a C++ guru, or an HTML 5 and JavaScript jock.

Here’s what’s on tap for the day. It’s all free of course, but you do have to register!

8 a.m. Registration and Breakfast
9 – 9:30 a.m. The Windows 8 business opportunity
9:30 – 10 a.m. Startup Showcase
10 a.m. – 12 noon Windows 8 design and development basics
12 noon – 1 p.m. Lunch
1 – 4 p.m. Hackathon
5 – 6:30 p.m. Hackathon demo and awards!
