Planning for this event actually began before last year’s event concluded, and there’s been some background prep work ever since, but now it’s time to shout from the rooftops!

What’s GiveCamp?

GiveCamp is a weekend long hackathon, bringing together over two dozen non-profit organizations with area technologists, designers, social media experts, and other talented and giving folks. Teams work on projects including web site design, CMS deployments, database development, and pretty much any technical-focused task that the non-profit needs help with. Volunteers are fed and caffeinated through the weekend, and a hearty bunch of them camp out on the floor for the two day event!  This will be the third such event in New England, and we expect to have another full house this year!

How do I volunteer?

We’ll be opening volunteer registration by mid-March; look for an announcement on the website and Twitter (@NEGiveCamp).  Be sure to pencil in the date, and be aware that this is a weekend long commitment, since you’ll be part of a team that will be working from Friday evening through Sunday (though there is no obligation to spend the night at NERD!)

I’m psyched, what can I do right now?

Three things really:

  • Spread the word among your tech friends who might be interested in volunteering, and have them follow @NEGiveCamp for updates,
  • Let any non-profit organizations you work with (or your friends or relatives work with) know about his opportunity.  We are accepting applications for projects RIGHT NOW, and they can apply via the website
  • If you work for a company that might be interested in helping sponsor this event, please let me know.  We rely wholly on financial donations and donations-in-kind to pull this event off, and will feature sponsors on the event website, Eventbrite registration, on-site, and on the limited edition, ultra cool, GiveCamp T-Shirt.

As those that have attended the last two events can attest, this is pretty special event; we hope to see old and new faces there this year!
