Microsoft Sponsoring Providence WordPress Meetup

imageIf you’re in the Providence area, come check out the Providence WordPress Meetup this Tuesday, at 6 p.m. at McFaddens Restaurant and SaloonJake Goldman, Ken DeBlois, and Suzanne McDonald have built up great momentum from their initial meeting back in April, and Microsoft is thrilled to sponsor this month’s edition.   I’ll have a few words to say about the newly released IE9 beta, and Jake will address the topic du jour – building plug-ins for WordPress.

And if Microsoft and WordPress strikes you as an oxymoron along the lines of jumbo shrimp or deafening silence, it shouldn’t. For the past several years, Microsoft has been a primary driver of bringing PHP on Windows to parity with other distributions, and the interoperability team at Microsoft has been busy with efforts such as the PHP Driver for SQL Server, supporting PHP in the cloud, and getting PHP based applications like WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla! working as well on Windows as any other platform.  Check out Microsoft’s Web Platform and in particularly the Web Platform Installer to see how easy it is to set up WordPress and other CMSes on Windows.
