Adding a product to an order

Adding individual products from the product catalog and individual write-in products to a single order can be a valuable way to help your customers find the right product. Taken from the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Help "Create, edit, or close an order" is a topic that explains how to add a product to an order.

Add a product to an order

To add a product ( An item in the product catalog. Products can be linked to other records, such as quotes, campaigns, and cases. ) to a order ( A confirmed request for delivery of goods or services based on specified terms. An order is a quote that has been accepted by a customer. ) , you must have selected a price list ( A group of the specific prices that can be charged for each unit in the unit group of a product. Price lists are used to determine the pricing in a quote for a customer. A default price list can be added to a product. ) on the order form. After you have done this, you can add one or more products. The price list is required because Microsoft CRM uses the list to calculate the Price Per Unit ($) , Volume Discount ($) , Manual Discount ($) , and Extended Amount ($) . Values for these fields will display after you save the record.

  1. In the Navigation Pane, click Sales, and then click Orders.
  2. To add a product, in the list of quotes, open the record that you want.
  3. Under Details, click Existing Products.
  4. On the Order Product form, on the Actions toolbar, click New Order Product.
  5. On the General tab, enter information or observe any noted restrictions or requirements as needed:
    • Product
      Click Lookup Lookup icon
    • Unit
      Click Lookup to search for and add a unit.
    • Price Per Unit
      This value is automatically calculated based on the price list associated with the product that you selected. You cannot manually enter this value.
    • Volume Discount ($)
      This value is automatically calculated based on the price list associated with the product that you selected. You cannot manually enter this value.
    • Quantity
      Enter the number of product items.
      You must enter numbers between 0.00 and 1,000,000,000.00.
      You can use commas and a decimal point, but you cannot use a currency symbol, such as the dollar ($) or euro (?).
    • Manual Discount ($)
      If appropriate, enter a discount.
      You must enter numbers between 0.00 and 1,000,000,000.00.

  6. Click Save or Save and Close.

Important

When you change the Quantity field for a product, and then click Save and New, the column is not updated. You must click Recalculate to update the field.

Notes

  • To add a product that does not exist in the product catalog, click Write In under Details on the Quote, Order, or Invoice form. Then, add the product information that you want.
  • To add a write-in product, you must create at least one price list in the product catalog. To add a product from the product catalog, you must create at least one unit group, price list, and product. For more information about the product catalog, see Related Topics.
