The storm before the quiet

As I drove in this morning the winds were gusting and the rain was coming pretty steadily. A lot of Microsofties are off this week taking a much-deserved vacation. But the vacations this month and next are mostly about getting more family time. Those of us remaining are working feverishly to get things done before the long vacation break.

I have finally purchased a bass sax that is on its way to my house from California. I am looking forward to a quiet but long weekend learning to play this instrument. I now have (will have) the following saxophones that I play regularly for different gigs:

  • Eb Sopranino
  • C Soprano (vintage)
  • Bb Soprano
  • Eb Alto
  • C Melody (vintage)
  • Bb Tenor
  • Eb Baritone
  • BBb Bass (vintage)

I am currently playing at the Second Story Rep for their production of Cole Porter's 'Anything Goes'. I'm playing soprano, tenor, and bari sax. My wife is on the Third Reed book playing clarinet and tenor sax. After practicing most of October and performing three times a week from November to the first week in December, we can't seem to get the music or dialog out of our heads. And when a cast member blows a line, everyone in the pit orchestra knows.
