Is Your Business Ready for Hurricane Season?

I was watching the news last night, and it seems like it's a little early in the season for hurricanes to be making appearances. But there they are starting up again. Well I checked the experts and indeed they say, "On December 5, 2005, Klotzbach's team issued its first extended-range forecast for the 2006 season, predicting a well above-average season with17 named storms, 9 hurricanes, 5 of Category 3 or higher." Argh!

So I was struck by the timeliness of the CRMToday report, "Only One in Four Companies Adequately Prepared for Disaster". "HP announced the results of a poll showing that while many companies have adequate business continuity, availability and disaster recovery systems in place, only 26 percent regularly review and test their plans." What state is your company's disaster planning? Do you have off-site data storage and backup?

If you don't know the answers to these questions then maybe this can help. "To help companies gauge their preparedness for all types of downtime, HP has introduced a Rapid Risk Assessment tool. This free, self-assessment tool enables chief information officers and IT managers to conduct baseline risk assessments of potential business process failures and provides recommendations for next steps if scores are significantly low in a particular category."

Ooh, I luv taking tests.   ;o)
