SOA Track Keynote

Here is my keynote (PPT format) for the SOA Track at the Microsoft BPM and SOA Conference.

Here is the abstract for session:

Many analysts and industry pundits have confused the concept of Service Oriented Architecture with Service Oriented Implementations. This has only added to the confusion associated with SOA and its related concepts. The architectural concepts associated with SOA are not new – many have evolved from ideas originally introduced by DCOM, CORBA, DCE and similar technologies. Unlike these previous initiatives, the key promise of SOA is to enable agile business processes via broad, standards-based interoperability. While standards are important we must remember that standards are not architecture and architectures are not implementations. At the end of the day it is the implementation of a well-designed architecture that will generate business benefits, not the architecture itself.

In this session we will take a look at closer look at the Architecture of Service Orientation. Service Orientation is one of five logical capabilities that are common to all architectural initiatives. We will drill into each of these capabilities to explain their relationship to SOA and how these logical capabilities are supported by the Microsoft platform. We will also take a quick look at some emerging architectural trends that build on SOA using these logical capabilities.
