Announced: Windows XP Starter Edition in Russian

The Starter Edition program is growing - it began with Thai, Malay and Indonesian and now Russian has been added too.

I think that this is a great way to bring Windows to the world. I know that it's both expensive and hard to localize all of Windows. Starter Edition allows us to limit localization to only the most visible parts of the operating system, and also to include some market-specific customizations. At the other end, Starter Edition leads to a more affordable solution for the end user as it's designed to run well on lower cost hardware.

I really hope that the Starter Edition program is successful so that we can reach even more languages in the future.

More information about this is available at https://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2004/sep04/09-27StarterEd.asp, and glossaries for these languages are on ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/msdn/newup/glossary.
