A new lens!

I will finally be adding a new lens to my 'collection'!  After some strong bargaining I have finally convinced my 'boss' to let me get the Canon 16-35mm 2.8L II lens.  I am very excited to get this lens because it will dramatically help my efforts to get into real estate photography.  It also will help on our soon to come trip to Israel and Jordan.  I have done some photography for real estate agents in the past and now that my wife is a real estate agent I have an 'in' to get more jobs.  In turn, I use the money earned to buy bigger and better lenses, and therefore I believe this purchase will lead to a number of bigger purchases in the future.

Combined with my full frame 5d camera, Gitzo tripod, and macro focusing rail (that I use for panoramas) at least equipment-wise I should be on par or ahead of the local competition. Of course I need to work on my techniques but I feel I am getting better.  My next step will be to experiment with HDR pictures more - as I expect to make use of them often.  I also plan to charge less than my competition - mainly because I do not depend on the money for living expenses.

Lens wise this is my first actual L lens, so I will be curious to see the differences in quality and sharpness.  I currently own three other lenses that are generally considered L quality, but do not have the label.  I have the 50mm 1.4 which is held in very high regard and the MP-E 65, which if you have seen my bug pictures you are probably already familiar with.  The third lens is my Sigma 80-400 4.5-5.6 OS, which is generally considered equal to the Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6L.  My next plan after this lens is to replace my Tamron 24-135 3.5-5.6 (albeit a very nice lens) with the Canon 24-105 4.0L IS.  After that my purchase 'plan' looks like the following.

Canon 180mm 3.5L

Canon 1.4x extender

A good studio light set

Canon 85mm 1.2L

Canon TS-E 90

Canon TS-E 24

Canon 600mm 4.0 IS

Canon 1Ds Mark III

Of course, it may be better if my wife does not read this blog. :)
