Speech Server and Katrina

Watching images from New Orleans, I am still having difficulties grasping what is going on there.  I think as an American it is hard to believe words like 'refugee' and 'Americans' in the same sentence.  Too often we are used to accepting them as a fact of life in the poorer countries of the world and something that could never happen here.

Recently several individuals in my group helped with the Katrina relief effort by setting up a Speech Server app that helps families outside of the area hit make contact with those who were.  You can read about the effort here. Even though I admit that I have not done too much other than donate a small amount of money to help those in New Orleans, it is nice knowing that there are people better than I working besides me that are willing to step up.
