Half-Life 2

I have to admit, I'm looking forward to Half-Life 2

My wife was a tester on the Half-Life: Day One.  She had to play through with only a crowbar, because they hadn't finished coding up the firearms or first-aid stations.  Even when they added the pistol, they didn't supply extra ammo.  It was cool to watch her play.  Her movements were as well-scripted as the AI characters.  Very precise, calm, and efficient.

The official site for the demo says “Requires DirectX 6, P133MHz, and 24MB RAM“.  Woah, nelly!

What I really liked about Half-Life was the creative storyline & environment.  I'm glad they didn't just make a good game engine & models, and stop there.  The gameplay in Xen was a bit tedious, but it was more than made up for by the out-of-the-box design of this alien world.

My life is different, though.  I have a 2-year-old, and I don't want to expose him to the kind of graphic violence in the game.  (Sex is OK, violence is not.  I'm backwards from the rest of the country.)  So that means only playing when he's asleep, I guess.

I will probably need to upgrade my machine, at least the video card.

Since I quit EQ, I've been thinking about a substitute.  I have to be careful, though, so I don't slip into the habit of 7 hours a day in a game.  I like sailing, knotmaking, my family, my job, and taking better care of my body.

The front page of http://www.half-life2.com/ shows that our superheroes will be well as equipped to repair things around the house.  Thank goodness!

HL2 is definitely on my gaming TODO list. I won’t play it until it’s been out a while, though. I just can’t stand to play games I know will need patching.

EQ is also on my "been there, done that" list. Even at my most enthusiastic, I didn’t care for raiding. Toward the end, I began to detest it. Give me a good single group dungeon crawl.

Yeah, I had to drop my EQ habit when I moved out of DSL range… I’ve picked up Rise of Nations and re-picked-up Final Fantasy Tactics since then, and I’m enjoying both 🙂

Looking forward to World of Warcraft, or kicking the MMO habit altogether?

No MMO for a while for me. That kind of game needs a commitment of time that I can’t offer right now.

Maybe in 16 years when my son goes to college. LOL.

Is this game gonna be as ultra violent as the first, like for instance if I throw a gernade and it blows up are the bad guys going too like go in pieces or are they going too just go flying across the room?

I mean both would be best, cause it’s hilarious too have a guy go flying by you while your mowing down other enemies, and the blood and whatever would make it really freaking insane and awesome and I love half life, and I hope I lovee half life 2 more, and I love the game and the games awesome and I love the guns and the firing and the blood and violence and YEAH!
