i-mate Ultimate 8150 video and overview

Just before Christmas I managed to get my hands on one of the i-mate Ultimate 8150 devices.  The new i-mate devices have been long awaited and the 8150 is the first device I've had a chance to try from the new range.

The device itself is average in size with it's official measurements at: 118.5mm x 60.5mm x 15.5mm.

The specifications are what really excite people about the new Ultimate range.  The devices all come with an Intel Bulverde 520MHz Processor, 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM.  The screen itself on the 8150 is a 2.6" VGA (640x480) Touch screen and the device also provides an XGA Out capability (1024x768) meaning you can plug the device into a screen or projector really easily.

For connectivity the 8150 hasQuad-Band GSM/EDGE and Tri-band support for UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100 or 850/1700/2100.  The 8150 also has support for WiFi 802.11b/g/e/i and Bluetooth ® v2.0 + EDR.

The Camera is a 2.0 mega pixel camera and the device also has a forward facing camera for 3g calls.

With such a powerful device I was very pleased to see the 1530mAh battery on it!

I treated myself over Christmas to one of the Sanyo Xacti HD Cameras so I decided to create a video review!

I've been using the device over the past few weeks,  I love the power and functionality - the 2.6" VGA Screen is very nice indeed.  There are a couple of things to note though:

1) The 8150 has the 12 key keyboard - I keep flip/flopping between loving a 12 key or a QWERTY device.  Right now I'm a QWERTY guy some maybe the 8502 will be better for me personally.

2) The XGA out won't allow you to display on the device and the external screen at the same time.  This is important if you plan to do demos from the device.  Having said that using the device to access my Windows Home Server via Terminal Services was very cool!

If you are looking for an uber-powerful device then the Ultimate 8150 might be the right device for you.
