Office 2007 Service Pack 1

If you are using Office 2007 – Service Pack 1 got released earlier this week.  I installed it the same day and have to say that Outlook is much more responsive!

One of the improvements (which I think I’m experiencing) is improved performance for large PST files.  To see all the enhancements in Service Pack 1 you can download the Service Pack 1 whitepaper.

I have been having 2 problems with SP1 so far:

    1) outlook just hangs muc oftener on slow connections. I have to kill it 5-6 times a day now and maybe once every 2 days before.

    2) can’t click on a URL in an email anymore. It isblocked by policy it seems. More secure of course but more pain (as if Vista was not adding enough security pain without Office 2007 adding to it)

I can live with #2 (but being able to change the default behavior would be appreciated) but #1 And even quitting Outlook does not terminate the process. Have to kill it in task manager (that problem is pre+post SP1. I suspect the Archive/Backup add-in to be responsible, but that is an MS add-in…

Just downloaded the Service Pack, and now Outlook won’t connect to my mail server:

"Sending’ reported error (0x80042109) : ‘Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).’ I get a similar message re receiving.

My server is Yahoo — I am not a technical person — I don’t know what to do to get connected again. I tried setting up the account with Yahoo again, but that didn’t work. Can someone help?

    Thanks.

Oops — I meant I tried to set up the Yahoo account on Outlook again.
