Today is the 15th Birthday of the Short Message Service Centre (SMSC) the principle component behind the application of SMS Texting.  The first SMS Centre was conceived in 1992 and could cope with 10 messages per second, the latest solutions can cope with 16,000 messages per second in a single rack of infrastructure!

Despite efforts by many operators to broaden the use of data services - SMS still remains their predominant source of data revenue and it's use across the world has changed the way people communicate.
