Sure it´s cool with product development and defenitely, GPS will be a killer in tomorrows PDA´s. Although today it´s worthless, Microsoft has to solve a very important issue first. This kind of devices is not for consumers, its for corporates.

In Enterprise installations, windows mobile has to be secured, right? In our case we solve it throug Microsofts inbuilt "shell-protection". After inactivity for a couple of minutes, the protection goes on and you have to type a PIN in order to open it up.

My point is that when the pda runs the GPS-software, the PDA does´nt interpretate that as activity, so suddenly the PDA locks. Do you get it?

Mr Mobile, what are Microsofts actions to adress that problem?

Couldn’t agree more Roger. Take an example of a company that forces a maximum 20 minute timeout on any device that connects to its Exchange server. Anyone using a WM device for GPS in their car now has to either remember to press a key every few minutes, or enter a 8 digit + password every 20 minutes, whilst driving!

As an employer, the law ensures we have to take Health and Safety of employees seriously, even more so than security. It will be interesting to see the case notes the first time someone has an accident due to Microsoft’s "shell protection" enforced by their employers’ IT department. Now that GPS enabled WM devices are becoming commonplace, Microsoft need to fix this oversight – before someone gets killed.

Not a MS problem, but a Navigation software problem. For example the latest tomtom fixed it.

Is that so? Tell us more and give an URL. This is breaking news……

How does it apply in the cases we describe?
