this is going to be interesting, the first time to my knowledge that the manufacturer has released a free version ROM update for MSP badged devices eg the Orange SPV m3100 is the TyTN.

It’s a real test of  an MSPs commitment to their customers, as they will have to undertake customisation and testing prior to release to the end user.

If they don’t do this especially with the plethora of homebrew ROMs out there it’s going to throw the whole licensing model into the spotlight again.

Interesting that HTC are providing the ROM updates free, it does beg the question whether customers with rebadged HTC devices are within their rights to upgrade to WM6.

    mine detector anyone?

Its good to see a company finally really showing a commitment to helping current customers as well as new ones.

However; Theres also a brilliant marketting strategy here; customers are far more likely to buy replacement products from HTC (perhaps even instead of from networks) if they believe that they are going to get this kind of support from them in future. But i dont think the networks are going to complain. Each of these phones sold makes a massive loss. its only the high price data plans that allow them to recoup this.

    result; everybody wins!

  6. ian says:

i hope soon because the phone isn’t even on their site and they designed it.
