It’ll be avaiable in June for $499 for 4GB and $599 for 8GB.  I <a href="http://michaeldotnet.blogspot.com/2007/01/someday-apple-will-win.html">think</a&gt; this isn’t about cell phones though, it’s about UMPCs or in this case an UMMac.

Bah…no linkies 🙁  That should, of course, be: http://michaeldotnet.blogspot.com/2007/01/someday-apple-will-win.html

    Quite pricey for an iCrackedOnSidewalk/iDroppedInToilet

    Ouch,

No offense this is kind of an embarrassment for Windows Mobile. Dont get me wrong, Im a huge fan of windows mobile, i have used every generation of windows mobile phones since inception, but after seeing this I am going to consider switching to apple.

Ive seen crossbow and have seen relatively little true innovation in it. Seems that apple is leading the way in next generation technology and yet they are only just starting.

iphone makes UPMC , windows mobile, blackberry, palm, symbian look like a joke.

  5. It is unlikely that business users will buy the Iphone though. So it’s not really a big threat for Windows Mobile for now. Unless Apple adds features to it that makes it appealing to businesses and professionals.

  6. MSDNArchive says:

CraigH – I’d have to disagree with you – apart from the innovative physical design…

Touch Screen, Music sync and play capability, web browser and IMAP email is the same feature spec we released in Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition (5 years ago!)

The price is also huge even with a 2yr contract

As others has said, it doesn’t have nothing really new in it. But it looks cool, and as we have seen that matters for the folks on the streets.

Only dark cloud is the text:

"This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained."

Jason I’m sorry but I have to agree with CraigH. Saying iPhone and Pocket PC both have touch screens is like saying that a Vauxhall and a Bugatti are both cars. Same for the music and video features. The one is incredibly beautiful, sexy, human-friendly, and, yes, ground-breaking. The other is drab and functional. Like CraigH I’m a big fan of WM and a current WM user and I will remain one. WM is the choice for business professionoals. But I covet an iPhone. I lust after one. I don’t covet or lust after any WM device, I just know I need one. That is the difference.

  9. Guy says:

The reason why Apple can make such refined, chic products is that they sacrifice compatibility and extensibility for style and form.

The perceived clunkiness of Microsoft’s Operating Systems is often due to their obsession with support for existing third party software. This is true for both the desktop and mobile OSes.

The fact that Apple is saying that they won’t be allowing third party on their iPhone isn’t surprising and shouldn’t really bother the type of person who wants a phone on the basis of looks.

The iPhone and WM5.0 appeal to two completely different markets. People who want practicality will choose WM5.0, people who favour style and fashion will look towards Apple.

Sad the IPhone.  No 3G, only edge.  Storage not much better than an IPod nano, so you’ll need a real IPod anyway.  Too big.

Could listen to Internet Radio if the connection was better, but sadly we’ll be extorted by ITunes still.

Reminds me of the Moto Razor when it came out.  Fools paid 500$ for it and all its intelligence, but they still needed their precious crackberries.

So in 12 months when you chappers can get your mits on the Iphone, you will have it because its "cool" to be seen with it.  You’ll have your WM5 device because you need it, and you’ll have a regular IPod because the Iphone cant fit all your media.

So go to the Military surplus store and get some of those field trousers that have two dozen pockets and you can drop a device in each one!
