Adobe Reader for Pocket PC 2.0

I’m always amazed so few people know this software exists… so I thought I’d blog it!

If you want to open or read PDF documents on your Pocket PC you can download the FREE reader from Adobe’s site!

Their latest version (v2.0) provides the following:

  • Mobile data entry: Submit form data using handheld devices over a wireless connection. If you are working offline, the data is temporarily stored, then submitted once a connection is established. Send forms by e-mail or directly to the destination server using a cradle or cable.

  • Wireless printing: Print directly from a handheld device to a remote printer.

  • Slide show viewing: Easily share Adobe PDF slide shows generated by Adobe Photoshop® Album software on handheld devices in portrait or landscape mode.

I’d guess Acrobat is one of the most cross-platform tool to have existed. It supports Symbian, Palm, PocketPC, All versions of Windows starting from 3.1, All versions of Mac (7.x, 8.x, 9.x, 10.x) Linux, Solarix, IBM AIX, HP-UX, OS/2 and more.

I worked in Adobe for some time and in the Acrobat team for couple of Months…..

Another interesting feature very few people know is that in case you do not have acrobat reader installed (as in a public kiosk) and you want to read a pdf file you can send the file as an attachment to and you’ll get an email back with the html version of the file attached to it. You can email to and get the text version back….

I’m very disappointed with AR ver 2.

It took me several attempts to actually load the damn thing despite removing ver 1 from my PC.

Only after messing with the registry could I get it to load.  then, at about 3.00 this morning I find I can’t open anything with it.

It doesn’t run well, only loads after a soft reset.

    Wish I’d never bothered.

    I’m using an X50v, WM2003.

    Now looking for updates/patches/fixes……
