Back to reality...

Well it's back to reality for me this week.  I've been on parental leave since Thanksgiving.   The Microsoft parental leave benefit is awesome.   I had a good time hanging out with the kids and visiting Vancouver, Whistler, and Portland during the break.  The campus is dead this week, so I can catch up on emails and get some work done without any distractions.

I'm currently working on an article on creating MOM 2005 management packs.  Hopefully I'll get it published to MSDN in the next week or two.  The article is a developer-focused overview of MOM and a step-by-step example showing how to create a simple management pack for a custom .NET application.   My current plan is to then release a second article that focuses on receiving WMI instrumentation events in MOM.   I was planning to cover the MOM overview, step-by-step example of building a MP, and WMI integration in one article but it was looking like the article would be over 50 pages.

If you have or are currently building a custom MOM management pack for your application, I would be interested to hear about it.   I've noticed that there's just not a lot of information out there on the subject.   There's some good information on MOM 2005, but I've noticed that most of it is focused on admins or operators and there is very little information about creating event rules, custom tasks, etc.
