This has created a new market for companies providing anonymous proxy servers, which route your web requests through them, and thus, allow you to hide your IP address behind their proxies. This allows you to minimize the chance of letting hackers and companies that own web sites you visit from stealing your personal information (this includes your surfing history).

Of course, you want to be sure you’re dealing with a reputable company and that you’re not just handing over your information from one crook to another…
